Subtle live jazz for an intimate wedding — with timeless standards

Weddings · Jazz standards

How do you make a small wedding even more memorable? More and more couples are drawn to the idea of a smaller, more intimate celebration.

Why? Because the point isn't a big fuss, and certainly not a party that runs until dawn. It's a relaxed dinner or drinks after the ceremony with close family and good friends.

Somewhere among the usual items — venue, dress, dinner menu, invitations — and the rest of that seemingly endless list, there's the music too.

All right — but what about the music?

Plenty of people don't even consider live music, musicians or a band. Why would they — it's only a small wedding. Someone will put a playlist together, these days usually from a streaming service, we'll hook the phone or the laptop up to the sound system somehow, and that's that.

Is that really the right answer?

On an evening this important, the music — its role, its character and its quality — can make all the difference. Music can set the mood, or it can wreck it. Loud music can even send the party home early.

So what will make the evening warmer and more memorable?

The Jazz in the Shade band is a natural fit for occasions like this too.

Our line-up and our whole approach are built around three aims:

  • The occasion comes first, not the act
  • We play background music that fits around the conversation
  • The music is never intrusive, and the volume stays restrained

And one more thing that matters. Planning a smaller, more intimate wedding can bring its own disappointments. Below a certain headcount some suppliers won't even engage with you, or won't take the enquiry seriously — let alone offer the discounts that come with a bigger booking.

That's never the case with Jazz in the Shade. We bring the same quality whether it is a family occasion or a corporate event for 500 guests.

If you would like to make your own occasion more memorable, get in touch. We'd love to hear from you by phone or by email, or through our contact page.
